There have been some amazing holographic characters in Star Trek lore. The EMH from Voyager, Vic Fontaine from DS9, and even Professor Moriarty from TNG. But the first one we get on STFC is Badgey, and this makes me happy for some reason.
As bonkers as he is on Lower Decks, Badgey in STFC is an officer you’re actually going to want. He’s an uncommon science officer in the Lower Decks crew, whose below decks ability will help you in a myriad of ways.
Captain’s Maneuver
He doesn’t have one.
Below Decks Ability of Badgey
Haha! You’re Going to Die! – Increase Piercing by 12.5%/20%/27.5%/42.5%/60%
Putting Badgy below decks on your ship will give you a boost to the armor-piercing, shield piercing, and accuracy of your ship. So every crew you’re using right now will get better with Badgey below decks. Every type of combat will be improved with him. In long PMC fights, he’ll end them sooner. Against armadas, you’ll do more damage.
And your best PvP ship and crew just got better. So the ramifications for Territory Capture are big.
The thing I think might be the most fun is hiding him below decks on a Meridian, and waiting for some unsuspecting player to come along and try to hit you with his Vi’Dar. Because now, with Boimler and Mariner, you can hide a combat crew underneath a mining crew.
The only downside here is that as an uncommon officer, he’s not going to give you a great deal of boost to your attack/defense/health stats.
Officer Ability
Whee! Murder! – Reduce Enemy Mitigation by 5%/12%/15%/18%/20% (Does not include Armadas)
This is a nice ability, but like that of Boimler and Mariner, you’re probably not going to have an occasion to use it, as it’s done at the expense of using his Below Decks ability.
Still, “Whee! Murder!” is one of my favorite ability names in the game.
Badgey
Badgey is a parody of the old Microsoft Office Assistant, “Clippy.” It’s odd to think that Clippy has been gone from computers for the better part of 20 years.
But it’s from the days of zip drives, dial-up internet, and the AIM messenger. Seeing the above gif makes me want to check if Napster has finished downloading a song that I asked it to yesterday. It’s flashback stuff.
For the kids, think of it as late 90s Siri, but as more of a nag that didn’t really do anything useful.
Jack McBrayer
Jack McBrayer was born in Macon, Georgia, on May 27th, 1973. Like Tawny Newsome, McBrayer is a graduate of the Second City program in Chicago. It was there that he was first introduced to Tina Fey. It also helped him get into TV, as he made over 80 appearances playing characters on Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
From there, he was a regular on 30 Rock, with Fey. Since then he’s had an extremely busy career. My kids know him as Fix-It Felix from Wreck-It Ralph. But in a relatively short career (only 20 years,) he’s logged over 117 IMDB credits.
