Beckett Mariner is the brash, bold, world-wise, take no prisoners, break all the rules, mentor of Boimler on Star Trek Lower Decks.
In Star Trek Fleet Command, she’s an epic command officer in the Lower Decks Crew.
Captain’s Maneuver
She doesn’t have one.
The Below Decks Ability of Beckett Mariner
Wingin’ It – Increase Ship Damage by 40%/50%/75%/95%/120%
As all-purpose as an ability gets, Mariner will increase the damage your ship does. So if you’re grinding with your PMC crew, which reduces the amount of damage your ship takes, Mariner will give you a damage bonus there. Likewise, this will increase the damage your ship does for armadas, hostiles, and bosses.
The only minor tradeoff, at least at the lower levels with her, will be her officer stats. She’s an epic officer, so once you’ve promoted her a few times, her stats will be pretty good, and this will cease to be an issue at all.
Officer Ability
Get It Together! – Increase Attack of all Officers by 5%/10%/15%/25%/30%
As I said with Boimler, for the time being, there’s not really a time when you’d use this. Since you can’t use her Officer ability at the same time you’re using her below decks ability, it’s just not worth putting her in an officer slot.
Beckett Mariner
Beckett Mariner is named for show creator Mike McMahon’s sister, Beckett Mariner McMahon.
According to McMahon, “Mariner is a bit of a combination of many, many types of Star Trek character… The challenge for Mariner was: How do you get a character who’s comedically vibrant and causes friction but still feels like she would fit into Starfleet? So partially she’s based on elements of Kirk and Janeway and Picard, where she knows what she’s doing and it feels like she kind of has an understanding of the galaxy. She knows the rules, but also sometimes feels like she should bend them because she knows better. And it’s that intimate knowledge of knowing everything, but then deciding how you’re going to express it that makes Mariner feel new to me.
What I used to say is that she’s kind of like Maverick in Top Gun, like he’s great at flying a jet but he also buzzes the tower.”

Mariner is voiced by actress Tawny Newsome. Newsome grew up on a ranch in Vacaville, California.
