As we get more and more officers in the game, I’m going to have to work to catch up with some of the older officers in the game. So here are the last three officers from the good ol’ Blood and Honor crew: Linkasa, Qa’ug, and Yan’Agh. They’re all uncommon officers, and as with most uncommons, they can be useful, but not really life-altering.
Linkasa
Captain’s Maneuver
Way of the Klingon – After winning a battle, Linkasa increases the Defense of all the Officers on the ship by 10%
Officer Ability
At the start of combat, Linkasa increases the Armor of the ship by (25% 35% 75% 175% 500%) of the total Attack of the crew.
Linkasa (mother of Sirella, see below) is an uncommon engineering officer. She’ll benefit the defense of your ship. This isn’t to say she won’t be effective when you’re attacking, but when you attack, she’ll work to mitigate the amount of damage your ship receives in combat. This will help you in battles against players, hostiles, mission bosses, and armadas.
Also, keep in mind that she’ll be more useful on battleships, since her officer ability gives a bonus to your ship’s armor, and that’s how battleships defend themselves.
She’s also an officer who really scales up well. A maxed-out Linkasa could be useful for you, giving you a 500% bonus to your armor, while a 25% bonus at lower levels won’t be all that significant. And remember that this bonus is contingent on the attack stats of your crew, so make sure to max those stats below decks.
I can’t see her really ever being your first choice, but in scramble armada events, she could be useful on your 4th or 5th armada crew.
Lastly, her captain’s ability is… okay. Nothing to write home about.
Qa’ug
Captain’s Maneuver
Excel Under Pressure – When the ship gets a Hull Breach from the opponent, Qa’ug decreases all the stats of the officers on the opponent’s ship by 35%.
Officer Ability
Blood and Honor – When the ship gets a Hull Breach from the opponent, Qa’ug increases Accuracy by (30% 40% 50% 60% 70%.)
Qa’ug is a bit of an odd duck in STFC. He’s an anti-hull breach officer, in a crew of officers who aren’t anti-hull breach. Whereas the Pan crew all work together when their ship has a hull breach, Qa’ug does his own thing. You could pair him with the Pan crew. But the Pan crew’s ability works on self-inflicted hull breaches, Qa’ug’s does not.
You could mix him with the rest of Blood and Honor, which is a Hull Breach crew, and seek out people also usuing hull breach crews.
I think that the bottom line is that this is so specific that I’m not sure just how often this one’s going to come up in the game. If you’ve got someone running a Gorkon crew, and you’re in the same system with them, maybe.
Yan’Agh
Captain’s Maneuver
Klingon Tactics – When the opponent’s ship Shield Health is depleted, Yan’agh increases the Weapon Damage by 10%.
Officer Ability
Wolf Among the Ships – Yan’agh increases the Damage against Romulan ships by (25% 35% 75% 175% 500%) of the crew’s health.
As per usual, the captain’s ability of an uncommon officer is forgettable. It’s far too specialized to be really useful.
On the other hand, Yan’agh’s officer ability to increase damage against Romulans can be quite useful, however. Good to use against Romulan mission bosses and armadas. Also can be combined with Yuki’s anti-Romulan ability, especially if they’re both maxed out. If you’ve got an opponent who’s running an Augur, that combination can be extremely useful.
Officer Backgrounds
Of the three, only Linkasa is referenced anywhere in Star Trek, and it’s a pretty great reference. Up there with Barot for glorious obscurity. She never appears onscreen, BUT… she is referenced in the Deep Space Nine episode, You Are Cordially Invited… as the mother of Sirella, wife of General Martok. In case you’ve forgotten that episode, that’s the one where Worf and Jadzia Dax get married, Klingon bachelor parties are every bit as miserable as you’d expect them to be, and Klingon mothers-in-law are even worse.
Normally, when I put these together, I start with the officer, and then go looking for the character info to back it up. But this time, I was watching the DS9 episode, and heard “Sirella, daughter of Linkasa” and my jaw dropped a bit.
Qa’ug and Yan’Agh are original officers to Star Trek Fleet Command. As with most Klingon names, they sound like something you might utter if suffering from some form of stomach ailment.
