First of all, the answers – and the winners are listed down below. Thanks to everyone who participated. I hope you had fun, and learned a thing or two.

1. Which TOS Actor was lost a finger on D-Day?

If you’d read my article on Montgomery Scott, you’d know that it was the great James Doohan who lost a finger on D-Day.

2. The USS Enterprise was created by which designer? Don’t let this answer go down the tubes.

The hint here should have made it really easy for the long-time Trekkies, especially those who watched a lot of Star Trek: The Next Generation, where it seemed that Geordi LaForge was always in a Jefferies Tube, and Scotty spent a bunch of time in them on TOS.

Scotty in a Jefferies tube, named for designer Matt Jefferies.

The answer to this one could be found in my article on the USS Enterprise.

Which of these characters DID NOT appear on the Original Series?

This one was a bit of a trick question, as to be fair, it’s from a mistake the writers of Star Trek II made when they called Khan’s right-hand man Joachim, who was meant to be the character Joaquin, who appeared in Space Seed. So the answer is Joachim, not Joaquin.

You could find the answer to this one in my article on the Augment officers.

It’s also not M’Benga, who actually appeared in two episodes of TOS.

Which of these four Klingons DID NOT appear on both TOS and Deep Space Nine?

The answer to this one was Krell. I gave the answer to this one all the way back in my article about characters I’d like to see added to STFC last year. (I’m still waiting for any of them to be added to the game.)

Kor, Koloth, and Kang all appeared on the Deep Space Nine episode Blood Oath.

Who was the commander of the USS Constellation in The Doomsday Machine?

Okay, so I’ll admit I had the most fun with this one. The correct answer is Commodore Matt Decker, and the answer to that one was included in my article on Patch 27, published yesterday morning.

But the fun was really in the wrong answers. “Commodore Maxwell Forrest” was Captain Jonathan Archer’s boss on Star Trek: Enterprise, played by the great Vaughn Armstrong. Armstrong played 12 different characters, and appeared on four different Star Trek series.

Commodores Thomas McClary and Lionel Ritchie have nothing to do with Star Trek at all but were rather members of the 70s funk band, The Commodores.

I can get how people wouldn’t know who Thomas McClary was, I’ll admit I had no idea who he was until I looked up the Commodores on Wikipedia, but I would have thought that knowing Lionel Ritchie was the wrong answer would be Easy (like Sunday morning.)

And yet four people somehow managed to get this one wrong. And to them, I’ve just gotta say… Hello!

Star Trek was the second series that Gene Roddenberry created. What was the name of the first?

This one has come up a few times, but most recently in my article on Nyota Uhura.

All of the answers were productions that Roddenberry created. But the key was the first one. It was The Lieutenant, which aired in 1964. It was frustration with censorship on this show that led him to go the science fiction route for his next show.

Both William Shatner (Kirk) and Christopher Plummer (Chang) have degrees from which university? (Plummer’s is honorary.)

The answer to this one can be found in my article on James T. Kirk. I have to admit the earliest version of this quiz said that Plummer had graduated from McGill – he didn’t, his degree is honorary.

But neither of them have degrees from UCLA, Northwestern or Harvard, so it works out.

Anyway, here’s Shatner talking about his admiration for Plummer.

Nichelle Nichols was discovered by which musical legend? (Stevie Wonder called him the “King of All.”)

The answer for this one, Duke Ellington, was found in my article on Nyota Uhura, where I covered a lot of background on Nichelle Nichols.

The hint comes from the great Stevie Wonder song, Sir Duke. The intro to this one always gives me goosebumps.

Actress Arlene Martel played T’Pring in the TOS episode Amok Time. She played a spy code-named Tiger in which 60s TV series?

The answer here is Hogan’s Heroes. The answer could be found in my article on T’Pring.

Here’s Martel as Tiger.

Marlena Moreau made her only appearance in which TOS episode?

The answer is Mirror, Mirror. In the mirror universe, she was Kirk’s “Captain’s Woman.” The answer could be found on my article on Marlena Moreau.
