Good evening, thanks to everyone who took the time to compete in my TOS Arc 3 Quiz. We had lots of entrants, and I’m happy to say, only one person got all of them wrong. Again, I’m glad that people had fun taking the quiz, and I had fun putting it together. The winners are listed at the bottom of the article.

The correct answers to each question are:

1. The look of Pavel Chekov was inspired by a member of which band?

This one could be a bit tricky, and I did that on purpose. While Roddenberry said he was looking for a Beatles/Monkees-type, his specific directive was to have the character have a Davy Jones-look. And as Walter Koenig said, in a video I feature in my Chekov article, the character in the script was originally called, Jones. As in Davy Jones, from The Monkees.

2. Mr. Scott, James Doohan appeared on Super Password in 1987, the other celebrity guest was from Star Trek: The Next Generation, who was it?

If you’d read my TOS Scott article, and watched the clip of Super Password that appears there, you’d have seen it was none other than Mr. Worf, Michael Dorn who appeared with Jimmy Doohan.

3. This TOS Regular Provided the voice of the Excelsior’s Turboshaft in Star Trek III.

Again, this one came from the TOS Scotty article and is one of my favorite bits of Star Trek movie trivia. If you haven’t done a Listentoamovie.com tour and listened to the director’s commentaries for the Star Trek movies, I recommend it. Particularly, this one comes from the Director’s commentary for Star Trek III. Of course, the director of Star Trek III was Leonard Nimoy, so he used his own voice for that of the turbolift.

4. Scotty enters the holodeck on the Enterprise-D to see the bridge of the original Enterprise in which TNG episode?

More from the TOS Scotty article, this one is from Relics. That’s the one where Scotty turns up after having been stuck in a transporter for decades. Sadly, Franklin didn’t make it.

5. Walter Koenig’s Chekov was added to the cast because George Takei would be away shooting which movie with John Wayne?

Back to the Chekov article (or the Sulu article,) where I talked about Takei appearing with John Wayne in The Green Berets.

There is a Trek-connection to The Searchers, but it’s not Takei, but rather, the man who would later be Pike, Jeffrey Hunter, who costarred with Wayne in that film. By the way, that was my dad’s favorite movie.

6. Scotty’s Officer Ability, “A Garbage Scow!!” comes from The Trouble with Tribbles, when this Klingon officer calls the Enterprise, a Garbage Scow.

Last one from the TOS Scotty article. This one’s pretty straightforward. Korax said the line. Kang would have said it better, but Kang would never have said it.

7. Here’s an old one; Barot never appears on screen in any Star Trek production, but he is mentioned on-screen in which DS9 episode?

This is one of my favorite bits of STFC trivia… the roots of the officer Barot. He was only mentioned in the DS9 episode Apocalypse Rising. Also appearing in that episode is a statue of General Chang.

And mild spoiler alert, there’s one more officer whose only Trek appearance is only an on-screen mention, and it’s in the episode, You Are Cordially Invited…

8. The only character to carry over from the original Star Trek Pilot, The Cage, to the Original Series was:

The answer to this one comes from the TOS Spock article. He was the only one who was carried over from the rejected pilot.

9. The character of James T. Kirk was based on which naval film hero?

The answer to this one is Horatio Hornblower, and could be found in the TOS Kirk article.

10. Which of these actors NEVER played Captain Christopher Pike?

You’d have to go back to the article on Chris Pike for this one, the correct answer is Gary Lockwood. Bruce Greenwood played Pike in the JJverse movies, Sean Kenney played the wheelchair-bound Pike in The Menagerie, Jeffrey Hunter played Pike in The Cage, and Anson Mount played Pike on Star Trek: Discovery. Mount will play him again in the upcoming Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
