TOS James T. Kirk is an epic command officer in Star Trek Fleet Command. Shatner is here! Finally the James T. Kirk that we grew up with on endless re-runs of Star Trek is in the game.
TOS James T. Kirk Captain Maneuver
3D Strategist – When fighting players, at the start of each turn, so long as the ship has Morale, TOS James T. Kirk increases the damage of energy weapons by 50% of the total Defense of all the officers on the ship (cumulative.)
This one looks nasty. With synergy, you can pop this up to 150% of total defense per round. And it’s cumulative. So long as you’ve got morale, he’s going to increase your energy weapon damage by 150% every round… and this will get larger every single round.
This is going to make him a great officer for Territory Capture on your explorers, especially your Enterprise.
Just make sure you’ve got as much defense as you can below decks.
Keep in mind though, this is only against players, so it won’t do you any good against hostiles.
Not that I think you’ll mind.
Officer Ability
It’s all we have to go on – At the start of each round, if the ship’s Health is above 30% of its starting value, TOS James T. Kirk has a 75% chance to inspire Morale to the ship for this round.
Much like his Kelvin Universe counterpart, TOS Kirk will give your crew morale. He does so a little differently, give Morale for one round at a time instead of two, and giving a slightly greater chance, so long as your hull health is above 30% of what you had when you started the battle.
James T. Kirk Trivia
As I went over William Shatner in my article on Kelvin Kirk, today I’m going to go over the origins of the character.
Most of my readers will probably know that Kirk wasn’t the first captain of the Enterprise. That position in the first Star Trek pilot, The Cage, was filled by Christopher Pike. With Jeffrey Hunter opting out before the second pilot, a new character was created before the second pilot, Where No Man Has Gone Before.
And while the name of the character changed, and the actor playing the part also changed, Rodenberry’s description of the character stayed the same. Also note that in the original pitch, the character was called “Robert April.”
“The ‘skipper’, about thirty-four, Academy graduate, rank of Captain… a shorthand sketch of Robert April might be ‘A space-age Captain Horatio Hornblower‘, lean and capable both mentally and physically.“A colorfully complex personality, he is capable of action and decision that can verge on the heroic – and at the same time lives a continual battle with self-doubt and the loneliness of command.“As with similar men in the past (Drake, Cook, Bougainville, and Scott), his primary weakness is a predilection to action over administration, a temptation to take the greatest risks onto himself. But, unlike most early explorers, he has an almost compulsive compassion for the plight of others, alien as well as human, [and] must continually fight the temptation to risk many to save one.“
