The Basics
The Borg Tribble, Ten of Ten was introduced during the Borg arc. There was a special event where you had to multiply tribbles, and winning that event got you officer shards. After that, you were able to purchase them in an event store.
Now, You can get recruiting shards for Ten of Ten in Ultra and Premium Recruiting chests. Unfortunately, right now you cannot use transporter patterns (because I’d be spending a bunch to promote him.)
The Borg Tribble is extremely valuable for the impact it can make on your mining. Acquire and promote Ten of Ten by any means necessary.
Captain’s Manuever of the Borg Tribble
Multiplicative Extraction – Ten of Ten increases the speed of Parsteel, Tritanium, and Dilithium mining by 50%.
The great paradox of Ten of Ten is that by the time you actually get them, you’ll very rarely have the need to mine resources, rather you’ll get most of what you need either from missions, events, and/or raiding. However, if you’ve got any of the massive parsteel mining missions, having the Borg Tribble would be very handy.
Officer Ability
Tribble Mining Collective – Ten of Ten increases the Mining Speed of the ship by (80%. 100%, 120%, 140%, 160%)
This ability makes Ten of Ten one of the more valuable everyday officers to be released in the game this year. It’s great when it comes to mining materials, but it’s really at his best when mining Latinum on your D’Vor. He’s a difference-maker on Ferengi Monday, for example
Test Results
So I set up some mining ships with officers. First without Ten of Ten, and then with. Each of them was set up first without Ten of Ten, and then with him.
For Parsteel mining, I went with Helvia as captain, and Stonn and Barot for synergy. Then swapped out Ten as the captain, to use both his captain’s maneuver and officer ability. As you can see, he increased the mining speed by more than double.
For Gas, T’Pring as captain, with Barot and Stonn for synergy. And then swapped out Ten for Stonn. As you can see, the speed increased a little bit, but is almost offset by the mining crew’s synergy.
For Latinum, because Latinum mine location matters, I set up in Noakyn in Federation space. Since there is no officer that speeds up Latinum mining, I put an Augment protect crew on, with Joaquin as captain, and a synergy crew. Not that it matters, but I’m just telling you for completeness.
I then put on Ten as on as an officer, and the Latinum per hour nearly doubled.
Your results may be different than mine, due to ship and technology levels, but the principle’s the same.
Mining | Ship | Without Ten of Ten | With Ten of Ten |
Parsteel/hr | Horizon | 18,849 | 52,260 |
Gas/hr | Antares | 18,548 | 20,498 |
Latinum/hr | D’Vor | 5,607 | 10,094 |
The Borg Tribble Below Decks
Since Ten’s stats are heavily weighted towards health, he’s a great option for supporting officers whose abilities rely on the health of the crew.
Officer | Crew | Captain’s Maneuver | Officer Ability |
---|---|---|---|
Vemet | Nero’s Crew | Romulan Tenacity – If the ship survives an attack that depletes its shields and is destroyed in one of the following attacks during the same battle, the battle is lost but Vemet heals 5% of the Hull Health and the ship survives. | Feel the Heat – At the beginning of each round, if the opponent’s ship is Burning. Vemet decreases its Shield Health by an amount equal to 20% of the Health of all Officers on the ship. |
Yan’agh | Blood & Honor | Klingon Tactics – When the opponent’s ship Shield Health is depleted, Yan’agh increases the Weapon Damage by 10%. | Wolf Among the Ships – Yan’agh increases the Damage against Romulan ships by 25% of the crew’s health. |
Liviana Charvanek | Romulan Patriots | Romulan Tactitian – When the ship’s Hull Health goes under 70%, Charvanek has an 80% chance of Burning the opponent for 3 rounds. | Mind Games – At the start of combat, Charvanek increases the Armor Piercing of the ship by 100% of the Health of the crew on the ship. |
D’jaoki | Romulan Patriots | War of Endurance – After winning combat, D’jaoki increases the Health of all officers on the ship by 10% for 1 minute. | Shatter Defenses – As long as the opponent’s ship is Burning, D’jaoki decreases the opponent’s crew Health by 20%. |
Yuki Sulu | Section 31 | Disrupting Field – Yuki Sulu decreases the Shield Health of the opponent’s ship by 10% for each round. | Romulan Grudge – Yuki Sulu increases the Damage against Romulan ships by 25% of the Health of the crew on the ship. |
Tribble Trivia
Or is it Tribble-via?
Anyway, the Tribbles were created for The Original Series episode, The Trouble with Tribbles. It was designed to be the first comedic episode of Star Trek. It was the first writing credit for longtime Star Trek contributor David Gerrold.
The Tribbles themselves were unintentionally inspired by Robert Heinlein‘s “Flat Cats” from his 1952 novel, The Rolling Stones (get it on Amazon.)
The Flat Cats were similar in appearance to Tribbles, and also cooed, reproduced wildly, and had a calming effect on people.
Gerrold admitted that he’d read Heinlein’s book, but denied that he’d intentionally copied the concept. Heinlein, for his part, was happy just to get a signed copy of the script and said that he’d originally gotten the idea from a 1905 novel, Pigs is Pigs.
The second appearance of the Tribbles came in The Animated Series episode, More Tribbles, More Troubles, where the Tribbles were all pink. The animator at Filmation was apparently colorblind. That bit’s not a joke.
There were a few Tribbles in the bar scene in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. “Your planet, welcome!”
There were no Tribbles in The Next Generation, but they returned for Deep Space Nine with Trials and Tribble-ations.
The Tribbles made a brief appearance on Enterprise, and then showed up in Star Trek Into Darkness.
Then Discovery went Tribble-crazy, and brought in Tribbles four times, and then they showed up in two Short Treks.
