Mirek is a rare engineering officer in the Romulan Patriots crew. She’s an anti-Federation officer, and she can your opponent’s ships on fire.

Captain’s Maneuver

Burning Vengeance – Every time the ship gets hit by a weapon attack, Mirek has a 20% chance of Burning the opponent’s ship for one round. (Weapons with multiple shots will only trigger this maneuver once per attack.)

enterprise firing pattern

With full synergy, you can get this up to 40% per turn with full synergy. To quickly explain the way this works, each weapon that hits your ship will give you a 20% chance of activating burning. It doesn’t matter how many times the weapon hits, you just get one chance.

So for example, if you’re going against an Enterprise, which fires its Disruptor Bank twice in round two, you’ll only get one chance from that.

So round one, you’ll get two 20% chances. In round three, even though you’re hit four times, you’ll only get three 20% chances of activating burning.

And burning is going to set off the Augur‘s Obliterator ability.

Officer Ability

Acid Bitterness – Mirek increases the Damage against Federation ships by 25%, 35%, 75%, 175%, 500% of the Crew’s Defense.

This ability is why you’re going to want to have a maxed Mirek in your stable, especially when combined with a maxed Krell. And it’s not for hunting hostiles, nor armadas, nor really even mission bosses (you’ve got better crews for that) – but this is purely for destroying Federation ships in PvP. And specifically, for hunting Enterprises with your Augur.

Any time I know that I’ve got to hunt Enterprises, Mirek goes on my Augur as captain, with Krell and Admiral Marcus as officers. (You can also sub in Djaoki depending on the levels of your officers.)

The nice thing about this trio (Mirek, Krell, Marcus) is all of their abilities depend on defense, so loading up your below decks crew with defense-heavy officers will give you a maximum impact from all three officers.

The key to this working is having these officers maxed (or Marcus at least to 400%), and your below decks stats.

Mirek Trivia

mirek

The character Mirek appears in the 1997 Star Trek: Unlimited comic book, None But The Brave. She was the younger sister of Liviana Charvanek. The comic was a follow-up to the TOS episode, The Enterprise Incident. Mirek has captured a Constitution-class starship, and Scotty was sent on a commando mission to retake the ship. And I know you’re shocked, but she’s got a little bit of bitterness over her sister being captured by the Enterprise.

Debbie Mirek

The first connection of the name, Mirek, in Trek comes from author Debbie Mirek, who was a co-author of The Star Trek Encyclopedia in 1994 with Michael and Denise Okuda.

It’s her only writing credit, and otherwise, she’s a nurse.

I can’t find any direct citation that the character of Mirek was named for Debbie, but it seems more probable than not that a co-author of the Star Trek Encyclopedia would be referenced in a book that was the go-to guide for all things Star Trek in the era before Memory Alpha.
