The Basics

Admiral Alexander Marcus is the father of Carol Marcus. Unseen in the prime universe, he makes his onscreen debut in Star Trek: Into Darkness, as the section 31 Admiral who decides to wake Khan, and later tries to destroy the USS Enterprise aboard his massive ship, the Vengeance.

In Star Trek Fleet Command, Marcus is an epic command officer in the Section 31 officer group.

Getting Alexander Marcus

Alexander Marcus shards can be acquired in Ultra and Premium recruiting packs, and with Transporter patterns.

Captain’s Ability

Overpower – At the start of each round, if the opponent’s HHP is under 80% of its starting total, Alexander Marcus has an 80% chance of inspiring Morale to the ship.

And this number goes up due to synergy, so if you put Paul Zhou, Yuki Sulu, or John Harrison you’re going to get pretty close to 100%. This Morale ability kicks in once your ship is under 80% hull health. This kicks in all sorts of possibilities. It means you can stick him on the Enterprise, and the shield bonus that gives you.

I’d recommend going with Paul Zhou as your 2nd, and mixing up your third unless you’re fighting Romulans. In that case, Yuki’s a great option. And if you’re one of the lucky few who has John Harrison, absolutely go with him.

For your third, if you’ve got a strong Spock, he’s a great option here, keeping your shield up while Marcus pounds your opponents shields, and Zhou pumps up your officer stats.

If you’ve got a strong Khan, he’d be a great option with that crew as well.

Officer Ability of Alexander Marcus

Shady Methods – At the start of the battle, Alexander Marcus increases the Shield Piercing of the ship by (100%, 200% 400%, 800%, 1,600%) of the Defense of the crew on the ship.

This officer ability makes him an ideal bridge officer for Yuki Sulu, combining his shield piercing with her ability to decrease the opponent’s shield health. This makes them a powerful combination against Explorers, who rely on shields for defense. Putting them on a battleship like the Bortas or Intrepid makes for a great PvP crew.

If you’ve got an Augur, you can throw Nero on for a third, and take advantage of the Obliterator.

Marcus is absolutely an officer you should be spending officer badges on, especially if you’re looking to destroy your opponents Enterprises.

Peter Weller Trivia

Actor Peter Weller made his stage career in the 1970s, directed by the legendary Otto Preminger. He later joined The Actors Studio (yes, the James Lipton Actors Studio.) He’s been a consistently working actor ever since.

I recently listened to Weller’s appearance on Leonard Matlin’s podcast. I found it quite interesting.

His first appearance on Star Trek came near the run of Enterprise, where he played the villainous Terra Prime leader John Frederick Paxton. Executive Producer Manny Coto created the role with Weller in mind.

I think pretty much everyone who was a kid in the 80s remembers Peter Weller as Robocop. And of those memories, him gunning down Captain Jellico has to be high on that list. (By the way, could the dummy for actor Ronny Cox possibly have longer arms than this?)

And while we’re at it, we should also mention that Robocop killed the President of the Federation, Red Foreman!

In my opinion, Robocop could have been a horrible, MST3K worthy B-movie. But Weller saves it. He brings a humanity to the cyborg that a lesser actor probably wouldn’t have been able to do. Karen Allen also gets a nod for her performance as his partner, Officer Lewis.
