Hugh Culber is an uncommon science officer in the Star Trek Discovery Crew. In Star Trek Fleet Command, Doctor Culber specializes in Capture Node defense who can also greatly improve your spore drive efficiency.

Captain’s Maneuver

When defending on a Capture Node, Hugh Culber increases the Armor by 50% of the total health of the officers on the Ship.

As with the other new officers in the November update, Hugh Culber is going to give you benefits for Territory Capture. And in particular, it does seem that Scopely wants you to put an Augur on these capture nodes, as Culber increases armor and Airiam activates burning.

A crew of Culber as captain, Airiam, and Paul Stamets would give you max synergy. Stamets will reduce your enemy’s armor-piercing.

Hugh Culber’s Officer Ability

Hugh increases the Cost Efficiency of Jumping and Summoning with the Discovery by 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%.

As you’d have suspected, Culber and Stamets on your bridge will complement each other, each of them increasing the cost efficiency of your Discovery‘s spore drive. In order to max out your synergy for this group, you’ll need one of the Discovery command officers to complete your bridge, either Saru, Airiam, or Georgiou.

Wilson Cruz Trivia

Wilson Cruz was born in New York City in 1976. He got his first TV role in My So-Called Life in 1994, which also featured the great Paul Dooley. (Dooley would later play Enabran Tain, father of Elim Garak on Deep Space Nine. And of course, I always think of him as playing Claude Elsinore in Strange Brew. )

Tangent over, back to Cruz. He made his feature film debut in the 1995 Oliver Stone movie, Nixon. And he ran a gamut of guest appearances on 90s/2000s dramas and dramedies, showing up in Ally McBeal, ER, Party of Five, The West Wing, The Closer, NCIS, Gray’s Anatomy, and he may have gotten his Trek connection in the odd, but watchable Pushing Daisies in 2009.

Pushing Daisies was created by Discovery creator Bryan Fuller.

On the stage, like Anthony Rapp, who plays Paul Stamets on Discovery, Cruz appeared in Rent.
