Sarek‘s ward, and student of Captain Philippa Georgiou, Origins Burnham is an uncommon command officer in the Discovery origins crew. This is the Burnham from before the Battle at the Binary Stars, before the Klingon War, and at the beginning of season one of Star Trek: Discovery,
Captain’s Maneuver
Increase the attack of all officers on the ship by 15
So it’s an uncommon officer’s captain’s maneuver. It’s nice, especially for players who don’t have epic officers yet. It’s not one that I can see myself using on a regular basis. But her officer’s ability is a lot better.
Officer Ability
Increase Damage by (7%, 11%, 16%, 20%, 25%)
I can see players using this officer much like Carol Marcus against armadas.
It’s also a nice feature that this uncommon officer, unlike most, will require no officer badges at all to max out.
Michael Burnham Background
So I covered Sonequa Martin-Green in the article on the epic Michael Burnham officer. So, this being the “Origins Burnham” character, it seems appropriate to cover the origins of the character Michael Burnham.
The character was originally going to be called “Rainsford.“
The casting of Martin-Green was announced in 2017.
Michael Burnham was the orphaned child (apparently) of Federation scientists, raised by Sarek and Amanda on Vulcan. This made her the foster sister of Spock, and <gasp> Sybok. (Do you think we’ll get a Sybok story around a campfire in season three of Discovery?)
She attended the Vulcan Science Academy, and not Starfleet Academy.
