It’s a New Year, and a New Arc. And finally, finally, finally TOS is here. You’ve been waiting for it for months, and it’s finally here. Star Trek: The Original Series is finally in Star Trek: Fleet Command.

Gene Rodenberry’s “Wagon Train to the Stars” is here. And it’s not the 2009 lens-flare fest, but the plot-driven (though low-budget) allegory series that fans have come to love over the decades.

This month’s game update is pretty great, and there’s a lot to be excited about. No new ships, but new officers – to give you another bridge crew for PvP in territory capture, and give you another mining crew. And there are new techs that should help you spend less time grinding.

And something I’ve wanted for a while, a way to get ISS Jellyfish blueprints that doesn’t involve an auction or armadas.

New Officers

TOS spock

So for starters, we’ve got five, count ’em, five new officers. TOS Kirk, TOS Spock, TOS Uhura, Raphael DuPont, and Elea Makinen. The new (old) Kirk, Spock, and Uhura will all have PvP uses.

DuPont and Makininen are original characters, who will each be extremely useful in mining. These two are going to be particularly prized, and will greatly reduce the amount of time you need to spend mining each day.

Carbonacea: "to seek out new life" even if not carbon-based. . .
Spock mind-melds with the Horta.

However, if I had only one criticism of this update, it’s that these are brand new characters. We’ve got three seasons of television to draw from.

How much more fun would it be to have the Horta as one of the new officers? We’ve got a tribble, why not a Horta? We already know they’re great at mining.

And for the other, how about Kyle. I know he’s not a miner, but neither in TOS, are Stonn and T’Pring.

New Research

I’ll be doing more on these specifically as we go forward, but to sum up, we’ve got eight new researches available. And they’re all designed to help you advance in the game faster. Three of them are prime researches.

Nanoprobes hunter will increase the nanoprobes you get while hunting with your Vi’Dar. Prime Active Nanoprobes Refining will unlock a better Nanoprobe refinery. Prime Borg rewards will unlock a better Borg refinery (more faction credits!)

Franklin impulse speed will … increase the impulse speed of your Franklin. Frequency Modulator Cost Efficiency will reduce the number you’ll need to upgrade your Franklin. (Where was this a year ago when I needed it.)

And then there are three to help you with Latinum mining and refining. D’Vor Latinum mining Improvement will increase your piggy’s mining speed. Prime Latinum refining will increase the value of each Latinum Refining bundle. And lastly, D’Vor Security Enhancements will increase the protected cargo for your D’Vor.

ISS Jelly Service!!!

So, for the first time, you’ll be able to purchase ISS Jellyfish blueprints. But using in game resources, or by paying $99 for 15 Blueprints.

But there’s a catch – it’s a Territory Capture service. If your alliance doesn’t control one of the three eligible territories: Ma’kala, Corva, or Brellan.

It will cost your alliance 200,000 refined G3 Isogen, 7,000 Progenitor Emitters, 7,000 Progenitor Diodes and 21,000 Progenitor Reactors.

Once activated, those in your alliance can purchase ISS Jellyfish prints in the store, or purchase a refinery bundle. It’ll cost 6,500 for 1 blueprint, 45,000 for 5, and 500,000 for 15.

So you’re not going to get it for free overnight, but it will help you grind it out a lot faster.

New Mining Systems

Four new systems are coming onto your map. One is a mission system, and the other three are accelerated G3 Gas, Ore, and Crystal systems.

New Events!

I’m going to cover these in more depth in a future article, but suffice to say, these are exciting and new. (Come aboard, we’re expecting you.)

For the first time, we’ll have an STFC Scavenger Hunt. Where you’ll have a puzzle to figure out to find the next events.

There will be a mining event, where using Spock will give you a bonus, and a Kirk/Khan event that will replace the faction hunt, and give you lots of officer XP.

And there will be another new event, Heroic BP Overflow, where you’ll get rewards for earning points over and above those required to complete the Battlepass. And this is a completely Free-to-Play event. Just complete the Battlepass events every day, and you’ll get the rewards.

In addition, there’s going to be another recruiting event, but the variation this month is that you’ll get points for recruiting any officers, rather than just the new ones for this are – and then get a bonus for recruiting the new officers.

Lastly, there will be a hybrid PvP/PvE event. In this event, you’ll get assigned systems based on your level. In one of those systems, you’ll get points for destroying hostiles. In the other one, the “open” system, you’ll get points for destroying hostiles… or player ships. You’ll get more points for damage in the “open” system.

So there’s a risk in going to the open system, but you’ll finish faster if you go there.

And in case you’re curious, there is a research event, so you’d be best served to hold off on all the new research until it pops later today.

LLAP, and stay safe out there my friends.
