So the first prime universe update is here. We’ve got a brand spanking new ship, the Discovery (with its roots in the 1970s), some new officers, some of them doubles.
In this article, I’m going to give you an overview of the new update. For more specifics, you can click on some of the links, where I’ve got more detailed explanations.
A New Ship
Not to brag too much, but I think I was pretty close in guessing how the Discovery would work last week. So the USS Discovery is here. If you’ve got the Cultivated Mycelium, you’ll be able to jump almost anywhere in the galaxy, instantly.
Five New Officers in Two New Crews
So we’ve got two new crews for this month. The Discovery Origins and the regular Discovery Crew. The Origins crew has Origins Burnham, Origins Saru, and Origins Stamets. The one to look for here is Stamets – and his increase to your warp speed. The Star Trek Fleet Command galaxy is getting smaller by the minute.
The regular Discovery Crew has Michael Burnham and Saru. Both of them have officer abilities that are based in PvP. You’re going to want them, as they have the potential to be for PvP what Pike and Moreau are for PvE. I’m really looking forward to testing them out. Again, click on their links above for why.
Of course, the Disco character that I was most looking forward to isn’t here. Oh well. Maybe next month.
Badges! Badges! We don’t Need no Stinking Badges!
Okay, maybe we do, and now we’ve got a way for players to earn officer badges through the refinery. That’s been a major holdup for a lot of players, and now, there’s a way to work around it. This creates a way for free to play players to compete with hustle against some of the whales. (Granted, the whales will be able to do this too, but many of them have a glut of officer badges.)
New Events
We’ve got new events that will pop up for and disappear, almost as quickly as they came. I can see alliances having to work together to coordinate getting ships to these systems as fast as possible – especially before most players get their USS Discovery.
